Event

February 10, 2012 Fundraiser

February 10, 2012, 5:30pm to 7:30pm, Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Mariners Museum Park, 101 Museum Drive, Newport News, VA.  The evening will feature soups created by talented chefs from local restaurants accompanied by bread, dessert and beverages.  Live music, silent auction, raffle, cash bar, bowl selection and pottery demonstrations will take place throughout the Pfac galleries.  Doors will be open to receive guests 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Bowl selection, silent auction and galleries will remain open until 8:00pm or beyond.  In addition to the meal, guests leave with a reminder of this important issue in their handcrafted empty bowl.  Additional bowls will be available for purchase after the meal, and a portion of the proceeds from the cash bar will also add to funds raised for the charities.

We can sell only 300 tickets.  Advance tickets are available — cash or check only — in Newport News at Peninsula Fine Arts Center, or in Hampton at the Gallery at the Chapman.  Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door, while supplies last.

Hunger in the US and the Peninsula

“In the United States, more than one out of six children lives in a household with food insecurity, which means they do not always know where they will find their next meal. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 16.2 million children under 18 in the United States live in this condition – unable to consistently access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy life.” Source: Feeding America

In the cities and counties served by the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, 71,840 people are suffering with food insecurity. Click here: http://hrfoodbank.org/Learn/local-hunger.html to find out more about hunger in your community.
